The book covers the activities of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, and records the dramatic events of 1942-1945, including the buildup of forces in the United Kingdom and the campaigns in North Africa, Middle East,. Sicily, Italy, and Southern France.  All of the photos are drawn from the official holdings of the National Archives, and have been freshly reproduced for this edition. Full citations for each photo are listed in the back of the book to make it easy for interested readers to locate and purchase prints directly from the National Archives.
